CF Climbers,
Meet Chase. Chase is nineteen years old and is from New Albany, Ohio. He loves SPK (Sour Patch Kids) and is an overall incredible person. In High School, Chase was an avid swimmer and played water polo. By the time he graduated he had already won several All-State awards for his accomplishments. After graduation, he swam for Wittenberg University. Deciding that Wittenberg was not the best fit for him, Chase made his way to Gainesville, Florida where he is currently swimming for Gator Swim Club. This is an elite program where many Olympic, NCAA, National, Junior National, and Junior Olympic champions have been produced. Chase has Cystic Fibrosis but still lives an extremely active lifestyle and even participates in CrossFit on top of all his swimming training. When I first met him, I had no clue that he had CF. In fact, I had never met anyone before who had Cystic Fibrosis. Once I found out that he had it, I wanted to know as much as I could about the disease so that I could try to understand what he was going through. After further research, I realized how amazing it was that he was able to do all that he can do. He is truly an elite athlete. The more I learned about CF the more I wanted to help people with this disease and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in any way that I could. I began to try to think of ways to raise money here on UF's campus. I found information about CF "climbs" on CFF's website and realized that it would be a perfect event for the University of Florida. Our stadium is always open to the public to use for exercise and it is very common to see people doing "stadiums". I felt like a Climb here was meant to be. None of this would have happened had I not met Chase. He honestly changed my life in so many ways. He gave me a whole new perspective on life and taught me that there is a purpose for everyone you meet. Also, how hard he works has motivated me to work harder in my own life. If he can wake up at 4 AM, jump into the water, swim for three hours and then repeat that in the middle of the day while also balancing school, social life, and an inherited disease then I can probably make it to my ROTC workouts (that are three times a week at 6 AM). I believe Chase was placed in my life for a reason and my admittance to the University of Florida was so that I could raise money here for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and ultimately help them find a cure. Thank you Chase. You are an inspiration to all. -KLH "If you're not hopeful then what is the point of living? Hope drives everything in my life. Getting let down is a part of maturing. If I'm let down then that means I am hopeful and if I am hopeful then I'm striving for something better in life. I have a lot of things to be pessimistic about, but that would be a miserable life thinking like that." -Chase H. |
